knjj asked: since you have a lot more experience than I do lol any tips on how to improve guard strength esp. with the bigger opponent?
I very rarely play a guard game as I’m not very good at it and have short legs. I use butterfly guard and hooks alot and really just use closed guard to stand back up again. Random info time: 1/ A PT once told me that ‘sumo squats’ improved her closed guard game. 2/ one of my coaches (a tall guy) said stay busy attacking in closed guard, which I’ve noticed other people doing and it works e.g. choke to armbar to triangle, etc. 3/ Another one of my coaches (short guy) said never play closed guard against a larger opponent because they’ll always just smash through it. Hopefully some of that might help, but most of all drill techniques and work from guard every roll. It’ll come in time. Goodluck.
